“In 1849 Henry Sutliff, like many of his generation, went west to seek his fortune during the gold rush in California.  It is lucky for us that he never found gold, but he did open a successful tobacco shop in San Francisco.  From those humble beginnings, the company grew and over the next century and a half provided a rapidly expanding America with millions of pounds of Pipe Tobacco.  In the mid-twentieth century the company had outgrown its California location and located its new plant to Richmond Virginia in the heart of Tobacco Country. In 1969, Henry’s Great-Great nephew Gordon sold the company to Consolidated Cigar Corporation.  By that time Sutliff Tobacco Company had become one of the world’s premiere Tobacco Manufacturers with such well established brands as Mixture 79, Edward G. Robinson, Old Grand Dad (Dutch Masters) and Heine’s Blend.  Consolidated Cigar successfully ran the company until in 1999 when it was purchased by Seita later to merge into Altadis USA. We at Altadis USA are proud of the long illustrious tradition of tobacco blending and are continuing that tradition well into the second century of operation. Featured Product Celebrating 400 Years of Tobacco Culture in America We are pleased to present, Jamestowne Tradition to honor the 400th anniversary of the founding of the Jamestowne Settlement in Virginia the perfect crossroads of History and Tobacco. The founding of the colony in Virginia was the first commercial Tobacco Farming that took place in the New World. Additionally, it was the harvesting and sale of Tobacco that sustained the early colony and made it profitable to colonize this continent.  The settlement in Jamestowne represents not only the birth of America, but the birth of tobacco culture. Below are the descriptions of the individual blends. Aromatic Mixture – An extremely mild mixture of Black Cavendish, Burley and Virginia tobaccos top flavored with vanilla. English Mixture – A traditionally mixture of Virginia’s, Orientals and Latakia. Rum Mixture – A mix of Virginia, Burley and Black Cavendish flavored with Rum. Black Mixture – A Black Cavendish tobacco with a light aromatic flavor. Blue Note – Inspired by the famous Blue Note Café in New York City, this blend of Burley, Virginia and world famous Green River Black Cavendish has been expertly blended for the utmost in taste. Midnight Smoke – An all Black Cavendish, consisting of 100% fire-cured tobaccos.  Steam sweated for mildness and smoothness. Wild Cherry – One of our most popular blends.  Toasted Black Cavendish forms the base for this blend with bright Cavendish and Virginia added.  On top of all, al subtle Cherry flavor is applied for sweetness. Classic Vanilla – An all time favorite.  This blend is made with only the choicest burleys, golden cavendishes and Virginia’s available.  The captivating aroma and taste is exclusive to us. Night Cap – A new generation of pipe tobacco.  This blend of four unique black fire-cured grades with added highlights of sweet Virginia and cordial liquor is the smoke for the end of the day. Almondine – At last the intriguing taste of Amaretto has been captured in a mild and mellow blend.  Definitely smokes cool. Fox & Hound – A traditional smoke for the discriminating English smoker.  This mix of Red Virginia, Turkish, Burley , Latakia and Perique is of medium strength and guaranteed to please. Rum & Maple – A familiar old classic, this blend expertly mixes Bright Virginias and rich Burleys with the contrasting flavors of rum and maple.  Rum and Maple makes for an interesting and pleasant smoke.  Irish Crème – A master blend inspired from the Old Country.  All bright tobaccos form the base of this blend while the delightful aromatic flavor of Irish Crème will always please both the smoker and those in their immediate surroundings. Dutch Masters Cherry - Not unlike a masterpiece painted by Van Eyck or Rembrandt, this blend is distinctive. Toasted Black Cavendish forms the base for this blend with Bright Cavendish and Virginia added. A subtle Cherry flavor is applied for sweetness. Dutch Masters Whiskey - The superb and exotic blend of smooth Burley, tangy Virginia's and exotic Oriental tobaccos form the base for our premiere Dutch Master's Pipe Tobacco line. Uniquely blended with genuine Kentucky Bourbon. Mixture 79 - Steeped in tradition for over 70 years, Mixture 79 remains one of the finest pipe tobaccos ever produced. A mild and aromatic blend of all Burley tobaccos, uniquely cased and cut in the traditional method. Discerning pipe smokers have made this a favorite for decades. Heine's Blend - A blend for the smoker who likes plug cut Burley. An enticing mixture of Burley, Virginia, and Carolina. Edward G.
